Our next guest speaker is the newly appointed principal of The German School of Language in Adelaide.
A note from our speaker Christiane:
It is an honour to introduce myself as the new principal of The German School of Language
in Adelaide.
Growing up on Germany, I was privileged to travel and being exposed to speaking different
languages at an early age. I spent bigger part of my career in tourism. After I finished high
school I moved to Lausanne, Switzerland to complete a BA in Hospitality Management and
later a Master in Tourism Management at Cologne University. I met my husband in Germany
and together we decided to move to Australia, where he was born. Together we owned and
managed a corporate travel company for 15 years, where I managed the business end of the
company. We are very multicultural family and encourage our children to experience and to
value speaking German. Amongst us we speak four languages, German, English, French and
Spanish.
I became a qualified DaF (German as a foreign language) instructor, which enabled me to
tutor across Adelaide Colleges as well as at University level. Furthermore I held the position
of Chairperson of Parents + Friends of Music for a consecutive four years. After the forced
closure of our travel agency during Covid, I decided to teach German at a language school
delivering Certificate II & III in German as a foreign language, where I also obtained
accreditation as a language assessor and curriculum developer.
Last year I worked as a German Teacher at the German School before the opportunity
presented itself to move into a leadership role.
While my goal as principal is to continue traditional German cultural and language
education, I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students.
At the same time attaining a language though meaningful learning will provide the students
with a more rounded experience of German culture and traditions.
