Where: Langmeil Lutheran Church hall, 5-7 Maria St, Tanunda
Udo Boettger will be our speaker in September talking about The Böttger family story – 1949 to 1955.
His presentation will recount their escape from Jena in East Germany, making a life in Oberkochen, West Germany, and their decision to migrate to Australia instead of Columbia, Canada, or the USA. The journey includes the boat trip to Melbourne, the 15 month stay in Bonegilla migrant camp, and eventually settling peacefully in Salisbury North, South Australia.
His father, Rudolf Boettger, 1919 – 2018, had been writing his own book, right up to the time of his death, just shy of 100 years old. Udo has gathered all of his father’s files, diaries, letters, documents and photographs to ensure that this rich history is not lost. A selection of material and objects will also be displayed during the presentation.
Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake) is a monthly gathering to listen to a guest speaker and speak German. On the last Monday of the month we meet to listen to a guest speaker, chat in German and enjoy Kaffee und Kuchen. New members and visitors are always welcome
