BAROSSA GERMAN LANGUAGE ASSOCIATION INC. Annual General Meeting—Jahreshauptversammlung
Minutes of the Annual General Meeting, held at the Langmeil Centre, 25 October, 2021
Steffi Traeger, President of the Barossa German Language Association, welcomed those present and recorded apologies. 36 people attended and there were 4 apologies.
The Minutes of 2020 Annual General Meeting were read and accepted.
Steffi Traeger presented the President’s Annual Report for 2021, and Chris Leske presented the Treasurer’s Report. Both Reports were accepted and seconded by the meeting.
Don Ross was invited to conduct the election of the BGLA Committee. All current members had indicated their willingness to continue except Reto Gasser who for health reason had decided to stand down. Reto’s contribution – his enthusiasm, organizational ability, culinary skills that had resulted in memorable Kaffee und Kuchen luncheons and Laternenlauf meals – was acknowledged with applause. With no other nominations the current committee was re-elected.
Steffi presented plans for 2022. It is hoped that Laternenlauf will resume after a two year break because of Covid restrictions. It is planned that the association with the German History Research Group, which resulted in an outstanding seminar day at Langmeil during History Week, will continue. It was pointed out that the SA German Teachers’ Association Conference will be held in the Barossa and that some interaction with the teachers might be possible. The promotion of bilingual education will continue. Peter Mickan said that the SA Minister of Education, the Hon. John Gardner, was well informed and that funding for a feasibility study was likely to be provided in the coming year.
