We are inviting our Barossa German friends to come along to the Langmeil Centre in Tanunda for an afternoon of German talk, coffee and cake and a presentation of a guest speaker.
We have a Master Cathedral Stonemason as our guest speaker this month on the 27th September! Christian Frenzel grew up in Germany, where he travelled around as an apprentice learning his trade as a stonemason. He developed a particular interest in cathedral and restoration work. He has worked on cathedrals all over the world including many European countries, one of them being the Frauenkirche in Dresden.
Twenty years ago Christian came to Australia and is now settled in the Southern Barossa with his family. He has completed some very valuable preservation work on Pastor Kavel’s grave at Langmeil Cemetery and has worked on the Angaston Lutheran Church and both public and private buildings around Adelaide and SA. He was interviewed as an expert on ABC radio, about the planned moving of the gate house at the Waite Institute near the Cross Road and Fullarton Road intersection. An exciting possibility for Christian is the prospect of working on stonework for the renovation of Notre Dame in the future. All of this experience and he is still only quite young!
We meet at 1pm on Monday, 28th of June in the Langmeil Centre, 7 Maria Street, Tanunda. New members and visitors are always welcome.
