Kaffee und Kuchen

Kaffee und Kuchen April

Kaffee und Kuchen

Each month we meet to listen to a guest speaker, to join in speaking German and to enjoy Kaffee und Kuchen! We meet in the Langmeil Lutheran Church Hall, 7 Maria Street, Tanunda, between 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm on the last Monday of the month. New members and visitors are always welcome.

30th April – Peter Mickan

“I have just returned from a visit to cities in China including Hanzhou and Shanghai. As part of a project I visited over a dozen schools and gave seminars and participated in discussions with teachers and administrators. At our Kaffee und Kuchen event I will talk about places and people with a focus on schools and selected aspects of education.”

Dr Peter Mickan is Visiting Research Fellow in the Faculty of Arts, University of Adelaide, South Australia, where he established and directed the postgraduate Applied Linguistics Program. He is Curriculum Moderator in the Adelaide International School. An experienced teacher, curriculum developer and researcher, his projects document applications of Functional Linguistics from a social semiotic perspective to languages learning and curriculum design, to academic literacy, to testing, to workplace communication, and to revival linguistics. Current projects include text-based curriculum design for transformation and renewal of languages pedagogy, analysis of academic literacies, and revival of Barossa German. He has published Language curriculum design and socialisation (2013, Multilingual Matters), edited with Lopez (2017) Text-based research and teaching: A social semiotic perspective on language in use (Palgrave Macmillan), and co-edited Socialisation, social practices and teaching (2007, Lythrum Press).  With Professor Shum of Hong Kong University he has edited Researching Chinese language education: Systemic Functional Linguistics perspectives, which is in press.
