We’re very excited to have Christine Feinle-Bisset from Adelaide Hills Baking Classes join us as guest speaker this month.

Some notes from Christine:

Christine Feinle-Bisset grew up in a small village in the South of Germany, as the eldest of 5 girls. She graduated from the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim with a degree in nutritional sciences. Further studies and a research career took her via the University of Sheffield, UK, and the University of Zurich, Switzerland, to Adelaide, where she ‘landed’ in 2000. She lives on a small property in Uraidla in the Adelaide Hills with her husband, Tom, and their daughter, Emily.

Christine has had a long and productive career at the University of Adelaide (now Adelaide University) as an academic nutritional scientist and leading teams of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and postdoctoral researchers and many national and international collaborations. She has published extensively and is recognised internationally for her research on the relationships between dietary nutrients with appetite and food intake, digestive symptoms, as well as blood sugar control, in healthy individuals, as well as people with obesity, type 2 diabetes and functional gut disorders.

Despite a demanding academic career, Christine has always also made time for her passion of baking. Growing up in a family of avid bakers, no family celebration would be complete without a long table of exquisite cakes for afternoon ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’. Over the years, Christine has made a name for herself, far beyond the Adelaide Hills, for her delicious cakes, first selling them at markets in the Hills and then also to order. Ever evolving and enjoying new challenges, Christine now inspires people from all walks of life teaching them how to create these cakes for themselves, in small-group baking classes that she offers in her large kitchen overlooking the family property, under the banner of ‘Adelaide Hills Baking Classes‘.

Christine is also a keen gardener and cyclist, loves travelling, reading, hiking, knitting and music.

Christine will tell the ‘Tale of a privileged modern migrant’.
