Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake) meetings are held on the last Monday of the month. We meet to listen to a guest speaker, to join in speaking German and to enjoy Kaffee und Kuchen. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Dear Barossa Valley Language Association, thank you for the invitation.  

My name is Laura Geuting and I was born 27 years ago in Bocholt, near the Dutch border. After my school career and a year abroad, I studied in Cologne for five years to become a teacher for special needs education with German and English as subjects, as well as a  focus on learning and language/ speech disabilities. I graduated with a Master of Education in October 2021.  

I then taught German, English and politics at a vocational college for one and a half years alongside my studies and after graduating. My interest in working with learners of German and German as foreign language learners, as well as my interest in travelling and learning about other cultures, led me to apply for the DAAD Language Assistantship and brought me to Adelaide. 

I would like to tell you a bit about my hometown Bocholt. 

Das Kaffee und Kuchen Treffen ist ein gemütliches Zusammensein zur Pflege der deutschen Sprache. Es findet jeden letzten Montag im Monat von 13-15 Uhr im Langmeil Centre, 5-7 Maria Street in Tanunda statt. Neue Mitglieder und Besucher sind stets willkommen.

Liebe Barossa Valley Language Association, vielen Dank für die Einladung. Mein Name ist Laura Geuting und ich wurde vor 27 Jahren in Bocholt, nahe der niederländischen Grenze geboren und habe nach meiner Schullaufbahn und einem Auslandsjahr 5 Jahre in Köln Lehramt für sonderpädagogische Förderung mit den Fächern Deutsch und Englisch, sowie die Förderschwerpunkte Lernen und Sprache studiert. Dieses Studium habe ich im Oktober 2021 mit dem Master of Education abgeschlossen.  

Für anderthalb Jahre hat ich neben dem Studium und auch nach meinem Studium an einem Berufskolleg Deutsch, Englisch und Politik unterrichtet. Mein Interesse an der Arbeit mit Deutschlernenden und Fremdsprachenlernenden, sowie das Interesse zu reisen und andere Kulturen kennenzulernen, hat mich dazu bewegt, mich für die Lehrassistenz des DAAD zu bewerben und hat mich nach Adelaide geführt. 

Ich möchte euch etwas über meine Heimatstadt Bocholt erzählen.
